Celebrate the magic of your favorite amazing woman and the friendship you share with this enchanting shower theme!
Invitations. Choose stationary with a mystical theme that your Guest of Honor would enjoy. For example, your guest of honor might like:
Make sure you pick something your Guest of Honor loves because the invitation will inform many of the choices you make for this party theme.
Décor. Decide on a color scheme based on the invitations you choose. For instance, if the invitation has a lot of watery blues and greens, decorate with those colors. On the other hand, if you picked burgundy and black masquerade invitations, you’ll want dramatic burgundy and black décor.
Drape the tables in light, flowing fabric such as chiffon or tulle. (If you need to hide the tables, lay down a solid table cloth in a neutral color first.) You can tie the tips of the chiffon or tulle with ribbons in coordinating colors to create a blousy effect in the draping if you want. Then sprinkle the table with metallic confetti (you know, such as fairy dust) and then add flowers and candles for centerpieces.
You can also use chiffon or tulle draping around the room. String lots of tiny white twinkle lights around to give the atmosphere a mystical magical look.
Refreshment. Serve pretty appetizers such as Mazy’s Magical Dilled Cheese Spread with Cucumber Slices and Ali’s Amazing Bruschetta. Beverages that coordinate with your color scheme are a perfect choice for this occasion. For instance, Bellinis would give you some nice coral or pink shades, but if you’re using deep reds, Tasty Cranberry Punch might be the best choice. There are lots of options on TheShowerDiva.com's recipe page.
For dessert? What else but that most magical of sweets: chocolate!
Entertainment. Mystical music will help you create a spellbinding atmosphere. These days, there are plenty of options on the web. Fern Botero has created a fun list of possibilities on Amazon.com. Celtic or harp selections would also work well.
Play Magic Mind Reader. This is a lot of fun, but it takes a little bit of acting ability. The Guest of Honor and one of her hostesses will need to coordinate ahead of time. During the shower, the hostess will casually mention that she’s been close friends with the Guest of Honor for so long and they have developed a form of ESP that allows them to read each other’s minds. The Guest of Honor will confirm this, and when the guests express their interest or skepticism, the hostess will volunteer a demonstration. The Guest of Honor leaves the room and the crowd, including the hostess will choose and object in the room that the Guest of Honor will have to identify by “reading the mind” of the hostess. Invite the Guest of Honor back into the room. The hostess will point to various object in the room and ask, for instance, “Is it this book?” “Is it this lamp?” etc. The Guest of Honor will answer “no” because she and the hostess have arranged beforehand that the object will be the one pointed to after a black object. After the hostess points to a black object, cuing the Guest of Honor, the hostess will point to the chosen object. The Guest of Honor answers, “Yes!” and the guests are amazed! You can repeat this process again to convince your audience, but don’t do it too many times or someone is sure to figure out the trick!
Get creative with arts and crafts. Decorate baby t-shirts, picture frames, board book albums, or something else the Guest of Honor will appreciate. Have the Guest of Honor be the judge and pick her favorite. Award the winner a prize.
Play “Who Am I?” Create a list of mystical or mythical characters. For instance, at a fairy-themed party, you might have Tinkerbell, the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Tooth-Fairy, and so on. If your party is based on a well-known fairy tale, use the characters from the story. Make a name tag for each character, but keep the name tags out of the guest’s sight. Place a name tag on each guest’s back without showing it to them. Then, have the guests ask each other questions to try and discover their identity. The first one to guess their correct identity wins a prize.
Favors. Handmade soaps, bath salts, or other favors that coordinate with your color scheme will be perfect.
