Question:
How would you have a thursday night, bridal shower?? The bride wants a fun nontraditional shower??
Answer:
Dear Heather,
Since bridal showers are traditionally thrown during weekend afternoons, you can bet that a Thursday night bridal bash (proposed by the Bride-to-Be) is meant to be a cosmopolitan-to-radical departure from the Miss Manners School of tulle and tattles over tea!
To make this work, nail down the date as soon as you can and mail out "save the date cards." Go wide with the time frame -- say up to six weeks in advance so that the invitees have ample time to square their work and home schedules.
Have a heart-to-heart with the Bride-to-Be and find out what her fantasy bridal shower looks like. Where is it? What does it look like to her? Who's there? How is she dressed? What does she hope invitees will wear? What does she imagine eating and drinking? Does she want games such as Bride Bingo found at BadaBadaBingo.com? Does she want her bridal shower to be more akin to a bachelorette party? The more info you can get from the Bride-to-Be, the easier your job will be. Since you didn't mention whether or not you're her Maid-of-Honor (the woman who traditionally showers the bride), I can only assume you've been cast in the role!
Some ideas you might want to mention to the bride could include:
- a spa evening,
- wine tasting dinner party (if such is available in your area),
- favorite ethnic cuisine tasting (at a restaurant of the bride's choice)
- a comedy club night,
- cocktails during a formal gift-opening followed by a wild night of club hopping and dancing.
It looks like the sky's the limit, so all you need to do is nail down key dreams and themes the Bride-to-Be is harboring and set to work helping her realize them.
Keep me posted as to what you decide upon! I'd love to hear from you. I bet you're going to throw one of the best bridal showers ever!
Happy Showering,
