Question:
I'm having a baby shower for approx. 23 people. I'm not quite sure of the sequence of events... is the cake cut after the gifts are opened? Aren't the gifts opened last?
Thanks,
Answer:
Dear Lynne,
Showers can be done any way you want, actually ... they can be personalized to your liking! However, traditionally speaking, you will want to follow a pattern, just as a melody is played by an orchestra. Let's follow along with a shower sequence, shall we?
· The guests arrive and are greeted with warmth and love
· Snacks and food come out to help with conversation
· Fun and Games! (Ice breakers!)
· Ceremony (Time for Mom to Open Gifts!)
· Cake Time!
· Departure and Salutations,
· Best Wishes
In this order, it's traditional; however, I've seen it where guests are eating cake while the guest of honor is opening her gifts. She probably has quite a few gifts to open and we all do get pretty antsy!! So why not "LET 'em EAT CAKE?" as they say??
It is totally up to the hostess in which order the cake and gifts are to be done. Whichever feels comfortable to the Guest of Honor as well. If time is of a minimum, do both simultaneously. If it's a smaller shower and there is plenty of time, I'd say do one followed by the other. Enjoy yourselves, relax, and put the rules to the side. Do what feels right for you and the Guest of Honor!
Happy Showering,
