Question:

I was wondering in making baby shower invitations for a friend I noticed about 11 out of state invitations as well as 40-some others within an hour's drive to her shower. Is it correct to send invitations to people who you know can not make it? Just wondering what's correct in this manner.

Sharyn of Pittsburgh, PA.

Answer:

Dear Sharyn,

It is always nice for me to receive emails from my readers who are hosting showers for their friends. Your pregnant friend seems to have long-distance friends which means she must have life-long relationships that are held near and dear to her heart. That is what I imagine. If that is the case, it is in good taste to extend all invitations to each out of town guest. They may surprise you and show up at her shower!

Or, you may choose to set aside an area at your shower and provide a webcam to allow for a virtual baby shower where each long-distance guest may participate in the event in cyberspace. In no way should the invitation appear as a troll for bling. It should be sent with the intention of love and the announcement of good news - your friend is having a baby and she wishes to share the good news and invite her friends, near and far!

Happy Showering,
